JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - Any disappointment Keegan Bradley felt about relinquishing his lead at the 93d PGA Championship was quickly replaced by the realization that one of his best friends and fellow PGA Tour rookies had taken his place.

Bradley’s position is still quite envious: After a third-round 69 at Atlanta Athletic Club yesterday, the Hopkinton High School graduate is 6 under par and alone in third, one shot behind the co-leaders - his pal, Brendan Steele (66), and Jason Dufner (68). None of the three have won a major championship. Before Thursday, neither Bradley nor Steele had ever played in one.
Now, both will try to become the first player since Ben Curtis (2003 British Open) to win in their major debut. Able to turn in solid scores as the pressure of a career-altering opportunity was kicked up a notch, Bradley and Steele face the cauldron of being in the hunt in the final round. It’ll feel that way, too, with temperatures expected to clip 90 yet again.
